ARUCC has secured a large block of rooms at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel, 1 Rideau Street, Ottawa, Ontario. The following rates apply for ARUCC delegates:

Fairmont Room - $172 per night (plus applicable taxes)

You must book your room by May 26, 2004. Reservations made after this date are subject to availability and will be offered at a higher rate. Please book early to receive the conference rate. Reservations and charges are the responsibility of the delegate. To make your reservation, call the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Reservations office at 613-241-1414 or the Fairmont Global Reservations office at 1-800-441-1414. When making your reservation, identify yourself as a participant of the ARUCC Conference. Please note that you must call the hotel or the Global Reservations office to receive this rate. On-line reservations will not be accepted at this rate.

Discounted Airline Tickets on Westjet

Westjet has been selected as the official airline of the ARUCC 2004 Biennial Conference. Westjet is offering a 10% discount off best available fares, excluding seat sales which do not qualify for added discounts. The discount applies for travel between June 25 and July 3, 2004. To take advantage of this discount, you must book your flight through Westjet’s Special Products sales department by phone (1-888-493-7854), fax (1-800-582-7072) or email. Pre-Conference Tours

Option 1 - WAKEFIELD STEAM TRAIN

Depart: 12:30 pm – from the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel
Return: 7:00 pm approx.
Cost: $135 + GST

On this exciting tour, you'll take an unforgettable journey into the past on board one of Canada’s last remaining authentic steam-powered trains. You’ll travel a short distance by motor coach to the bi-centennial city of Gatineau where you’ll board the Wakefield Steam Train for a scenic 64km journey along the banks of the sinuous Gatineau River. You'll travel in grand style in the Riviera Car, a fully refurbished luxury car. Bilingual tour guides share their knowledge of the region’s history and the train’s own minstrels introduce you to local folklore as they stroll about the coaches spouting lively tunes and tales. Your ticket includes:

  • Champagne and hors d’oeuvres upon boarding
  • Tea time at Les Trois Érables Inn in Wakefield at your leisure
  • A Commemorative gift on your return trip

Your 90-minute train ride ends in the picturesque village of Wakefield, Québec. Upon arrival in Wakefield, you’ll witness the spectacular pivoting of the 93-ton steam locomotive on Canada’s only operating manual turntable. Many unique arts and crafts shops await you in Wakefield and you’ll have two hours to explore the village at your leisure before the return train trip to Gatineau. A motor coach will return you to the hotel following the train journey.

Option 2 – Haunted Walk

Return: 9:30 pm
Fee: $25 + GST

Join your "ghostly" tour guide for a unique and fascinating historical walking tour of Ottawa’s downtown core. On this Haunted Walk, stroll through the streets while your guide regales you with stories of the ghosts of the Bytown Museum, Chateau Laurier and Lisgar Collegiate. The tour captures the unique “darker history” of the city and let’s you see some of Ottawa’s historic sites up close. This tour is suitable for all ages and encompasses a distance of 1.5 km at a comfortable pace. Please note that should the tour be canceled due to severe/extreme weather conditions, you will be reimbursed in full.
